A robust soliton ratchet using combined antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic interlayer couplings

چکیده
A sharp magnetic soliton can be created and propagated in a vertical ratchet structure based on magnetic layers with out-of-plane anisotropy using a combination of antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic interlayer couplings. This allows the use of identical magnetic layers in the stack, which simplifies the implementation of the ratchet compared to schemes which use alternating layer thicknesses. The ratchet behavior is analyzed using an Ising-macrospin approximation and conditions for the propagation of a soliton are shown, which is demonstrated experimentally. Values extracted from the experimental data for the coercivities and interlayer couplings show significant variation, which demonstrates the robustness of the soliton propagation.

Charged bosons in a doped Mott insulator: Electronic properties of domain-wall solitons and meron vortices
We demonstrate from first principles that when a charge carrier is added to a spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Mott insulator in either a oneor two-dimensional lattice, the self-consistent, Hartree-Fock ground state consists of a magnetic soliton texture with a doubly degenerate electronic level at the center of the MottHubbard charge gap. This model is appropriate to systems with weak interchain or ...

The Anderson model of local-state conduction electron mixing is applied to the problem of interlayer magnetic coupling in metallic multilayered structures with palladium (Pd) spacer layers. An oscillation period of 5 spacer monolayers and the tendency towards ferromagnetic bias of the interlayer magnetic coupling that we obtain are consistent with the experimental data. The discovery of oscilla...
متن کاملInvestigation of weak interlayer exchange coupling in GaMnAs/GaAs superlattices with insulating nonmagnetic spacers
A robust long-range antiferromagnetic coupling between ferromagnetic Ga0.97Mn0.03As layers has previously been realized via insertion of nonmagnetic Be-doped GaAs spacers between the magnetic layers. In this paper we report the observation of weak antiferromagnetic coupling between Ga0.97Mn0.03As layers through undoped GaAs spacers with thicknesses as large as 25 monolayers. The field and the t...
متن کاملOscillatory interlayer exchange coupling and its temperature dependence in [Pt/Co]3/NiO/[Co/Pt]3 multilayers with perpendicular anisotropy.
Interlayer exchange coupling that oscillates between antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic as a function of NiO thickness has been observed in [Pt(5 A)/Co(4 A)](3)/NiO(t(NiO) A)/[Co(4 A)/Pt(5 A)](3) multilayers with out-of-plane anisotropy. The period of oscillation corresponds to approximately 2 monolayers of NiO. This oscillatory behavior is possibly attributed to the antiferromagnetic ordering...
متن کاملMagnetic "dead" layer at a complex oxide interface.
Recent magnetic measurements at La0.67Ca0.33MnO3/YBa2Cu3O7 interfaces led to conflicting interpretations: a magnetic "dead" layer on the LCMO side or antiparallel Cu and Mn magnetic moments. Here we report results of first-principles density-functional calculations of position-dependent magnetic couplings between interlayer and intralayer Mn atoms. The couplings in the first few layers near the...
